Aspects of Packaging Ecological Compatibility of Consumer Goods

Abstract

The main consumer spending of households is due on food and soft drinks. These groups of products have individual packaging, which can be made of various materials, such as cardboard, paper or glass. But polymer packaging, which often does not meet the requirements of ecological compatibility and safety, makes up a significant share in this structure. Therefore, at present utilization and recycling of consumer goods packaging, as well as a ban on production and use of certain types of goods made of polymers, is an urgent issue. The purpose of this article is to analyze consumer goods packaging from the point of view of the materials used, their features and safety. The article also presents the main terms and definitions in the field of packaging of consumer goods, classification of consumer plastic depending on the polymer used, produced products and their impact on the environment. Taking into consideration that packaging is not always eco-friendly, several variants of waste handling are possible. Recycling, composting, burning or waste burial are used in different countries for this purpose. According to the results of the study, the author concluded that the main method of waste disposal in Russia is removal of waste to landfills. Only about 4-5% of garbage is sent for recycling or burning. In this situation, it is necessary to implement measures to improve safety of consumer packaging, reduce environmental pollution, and thereby improve the life quality of the society.
