Development Dynamics of Small Business in Russia

Since 2016 there has been a decrease in the number of small and medium-sized businesses in the Russian Federation, with the exception of the indicators of some federal districts. However, despite the general trend of reducing the number of medium-sized enterprises in 2020, during the epidemiological situation, the number of medium-sized businesses increased compared to the indicators of 2019. The turnover of small and medium-sized enterprises in 2016 and 2019 shows increase in this indicator in agriculture and construction. Increase in the number of individual entrepreneurs is directly related to the increase in their revenue share. All these circumstances could not bring the level of the share of small and medium-sized enterprises in Gross Domestic Product in the Russian Federation closer to the level stated in the national project. Moreover, the crisis of 2020 significantly reduced the reserves of economic agents, limiting the potential for investments in the renewal of fixed capital. Decrease in investments in fixed assets, reduction in the number of SMEs, decrease in production volumes and worsening of financial indicators may also lead to decrease in the share of products of SMEs in GDP.Downloads
