International Religious Extremism and Terrorism under Conditions of Conflictogenity of the World Politics

Abstract

The authors of this paper focus on the study of certain phenomena of the modern world political space, which have a great impact on the present and future of individual states and regions. The analysis focuses on religion with its conflictogenic potential, as well as functional and dysfunctional side of religion's participation in political, interethnic, and territorial conflicts of our time. The article examines the discursive aspects of religious extremism and its extreme form, terrorism. The authors believe that the degree of actual and supposed conflict of a particular territory is most optimally viewed on the basis of the detailed analysis of the issues related to manifestation of religious extremism and terrorism in real political practice. The research algorithm used in the article allowed us to identify the causes that contribute to transformation of religious extremism into its violent form, terrorism. The authors have established direct and inverse relationship between the growth of conflictogenity in a certain region of the world, which occurs under the influence of extremist ideologies, and, on the contrary, goes down in cases of effective undertaken measures and competent settlement policies of the existing conflict situations. It is actually established in the work that elimination of religious-value motivation, its transfer to the view of ordinary, peaceful ideology can become one of the conditions of reducing of the overall conflictogenity of the modern world political space.
