Scientific and Methodical Approaches to the Concept “Economic Potential of the Enterprise”

Abstract

The concept of “economic potential” is one of leading in modern economic theory and practice and consequently its research is widely discussed in scientific and methodical economic literature. There are considerable distinctions in the definition of the concept “economic potential” in publications. Many authors use such concepts as “gross economic potential, “resource potential”, “working balances”, “possibilities” as synonyms. Some of the listed synonymous concepts quite exactly reflect the essence of the concept “economic potential”, but not always. The context in which the the words and word-combinations are used is important. In economic theory there is no monosemantic interpretation of economic category “economic potential of the enterprise”. There are different approaches classifications of its definition. Thereupon scientific community has no common opinion both on the structural elements of economic potential of the enterprise, and its indicators, methods and estimation toolkits. At the same time completeness of considered influencing internal and external factors and reliability of the estimation results, which form the basis for administrative decisions making, depend on the specified components defining the results of calculation-measurement procedure. Presented argument causes the necessity to work out scientifically proved and optimum research process in the considered area, according to objective and subjective aspects, the approach in classification of “economic potential of the enterprise” and new wording of this economic category.
